The film is the sequel to Spider-Man: Returning Home (2017) and Spider-Man Far From Home (2019) and the 27th installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The third Spider-Man movie in the MCU is scheduled for 2017, during production on Spider-Man: Returning Home . By August 2019, negotiations between Sony and Marvel Studios to change their agreement - in which the two worked on producing Spider -Man films together - had ended with Marvel Studios leaving the project. . However, the negative fan reaction led to a new agreement between the two companies 1 month later. Watts, McKenna, Somers and Holland were prepared to return at the time. Filming began in October 2020 in New York , before moving to Atlanta at the end of the month. During filming, it was revealed that Foxx and Molina would appear in the film, who would return to their roles in previous Spider -Man films. The film's title was revealed in February 2021. Filming also took place in Los Angeles and Iceland and concluded in March 2021.
